Evolution (Just Backwards)
Humans. A highly intelligent mammal, product of thousands of years of evolution, capable of great innovation, civilisation, empathy and curiousness. Also, the greatest enemy to itself, capable of waging wars, being intolerant, racist and bigotry.
Last week, we made history. We sent humans to space in a reusable rocket. We have crossed unimaginable boundaries as a species. Despite all the remarkable achievements of humankind, we are failing each other.
Racism is real and among us. There have been systemic violence towards Black people and various other minorities. The horrific murder of George Floyd and countless others before him makes this issue more urgent than ever. This is the time to do a lot of things all at once.
We need to listen to those who have been speaking out against racism - for longer than we have been listening.
It is saddening that despite us all coming from the Cradle of Life in Africa, some 150,000 years ago, we are capable of such horrific actions towards each other. We are nothing but temporary in this vast cosmos.
We are evolving, just backwards.
